Season ends

January 29, 2014 by

Well today was the last day of duck season.  We at Pikin Ranch Outfitters want to thank everyone that hunted with us this year! It was a great year with plenty of birds.  We met new friends and had old friends vis...it.  We hope everyone will come back next year for what we plan to make an even better season. Our last day was reserved for us guides to get together and just enjoy a hunt of our own.  Jeremy, Dave and I decided to hunt one of our open water areas.  Jeremy brought along his son, Hunter, to help us out.  This little guy is a blast. He came prepared in his waders and had his shotgun ready.  I offered to let him drive the boat to the blind but he was a little hesitant so Jeremy showed him how to run a mudboat after we finished the hunt. As daylight arrived a quick glance to the east confirmed one of the reasons why we do this.  The sunrise was remarkable! I managed to get a couple of pics before the birds began flying.  It was steady shooting on Gadwall, teal, ringnecks and shovelers.  Dave had his young pup Willow in the blind and she did a good job for us along with Jeremy's old pro Bear.  We finished with full limits around 10am. Every waterfowl hunter knows some birds are special.  We all look for that one bird we haven't shot, never see, always wanted a chance at, our "white whale" so to speak.  One of mine has been a fully plumed drake shoveler.  I know what your thinking, a spoonie?  Just think about how many you have shot that fit that description.   Bet it isn't many!  My last bird of this season was that bird.  He is already at LA Bird Mounts waiting on Bubba Andrus to work his magic. Thanks again everyone.  Now lets go fishing!See More
