Duck Report
November 10, 2014 by Brad Beaulieu
Well so far our hunting on the ranch has been on par with the rest of the area. We've had some really jam up hunts and others that were good but not the slam bam action some might expect with early season birds. Although there's a good number of birds already down, the abundance of fresh water coupled with a later than typical rice harvest in some areas, birds in the area have plenty of choice on where to hang out and eat. We're averaging around 4 birds per hunter thus far which is not a terrible start to the season but it will only get better. Hunters have bagged mostly bluewing and greenwing teal some of which are in surprisingly good plummage for this time of year. Other species commonly making a regular showing are pintails and gadwall along with a few divers like ringnecks and canvasback. The past few days we've seen a fair increase in the number of gadwall along with some mallards being spotted on Sunday. With colder weather moving down across the central midwest, conditions will be forcing some birds to move our way so numbers should be increasing a good deal in the coming week. As deer fever wanes for some and the cool weather sets in, more people will be turning thier thoughts to waterfowl so check out our online schedule and book your hunt fast before it's too late!
